Its week 8th of my internship at NUHS Ophthalmology Department. So far things are good although there are times where i had to force myself to get out of the bed in order to go to work. Allow me to share my experience for the past few weeks with you guys.

First and foremost, I've finally met with Dr Victor Koh who is one of the nicest doctor ever. The way he explained things and the different eye conditions was really superb. I can totally understand whatever he said. Guess what? I can also view the patient's eye conditions through the slit lamp. The slit lamp was used to view the eye and you can also see the back of the eye and also the nerves of the eye. That's cool!! 


There are many eye condition that i was given the opportunity to see. Some of them are cataract which is due to old age, some of them there's contact lens infection and in order to know which microbe is causing the infection, swab-ing of the eye was done and it really looked scary let me tell you from an observer view. Oh before i forget, pressure of the eye was also taken to see if the pressure is high or not. 


Other eye conditions that i was able to witness are alkali solution spilled into the eye while working. Due to the spill, the patient was most likely to loose some of his vision. According to the doctor, between alkali and acidic solution, acidic is much preferred if it had gotten into the eye since it prevent much damage than alkali solution can caused. Another case is when there is a hot iron that somehow had touched the eye. I also get to see the eye ultrasound was conducted on a patient and its really cool but unfortunately i cant really figure out what im supposed to see. Hahaaa.   So far the most common eye condition is eye infection due to contact lens usage. So people, a piece of advice to you, DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENS; IT CAN CAUSE INFECTION! 


Back to office work, we interns get to be involved in the Research Day Event on 25th of October 2012. Basically, our job was just to help out in giving the judges the score sheet and collect them back. Its really interesting and fun to be involved in these type of event. 



Hmm what else should i talk about??..

We also attended our first Operation Theater Observation with Dr Loon on Wednesday. Seeing how the cataract surgery was done was really nerve-breaking. This is because, i cant actually see such a close up view of how the surgery was done. Its really really gross to be honest. However, whatever it is, we did had fun seeing how the surgery was done. We also have fun wearing the scrub suit and acting like as if we are the ones responsible to do the surgery. Of course we took pictures too. Its not complete without pictures taken!

 
According to Selena, during IIP we are not supposed to take leave but since the company decided to award us with leave i've taken my first 2 days of leave on the 12 and 14 of November just to have a break. Hehee. We have a total of 6 days of leave and i cant wait to taken my next set of leave.
